Depart for Manyara National Park. Nestled at the base of the Great Rift Valley escarpment, Lake Manyara is one of the most beautiful places in Africa. As you enter the gate, the Park is dramatically marked off by lush green vegetation consisting of tall trees of the ground water forest, which provide home to troops of baboons and blue monkeys. Further down, the forest opens up into woodland, grassland, swamps and beyond, the soda lake itself where over 350 species of birds, including the lively flamingo, pelican, sacred ibis, grebe and stork can be viewed (a bird watchers’ paradise). At the southern end of the Park are hot sulphur springs called MajiMoto. Manyara is noted for its numerous buffalo, elephant, giraffe, impala, hippo, as well as a great variety of smaller animals, and of course the very elusive tree-climbing lions. In the afternoon, you will proceed towards Karatu to Plantation Lodge. The lodge’s 18 rooms lie generously distributed throughout the flowering garden, some with verandas and direct access to the garden. Each room has its own style, choice accessories and bouquets of fresh flowers from the garden that put the cherry on the cake. From the kitchen, the chef offers exquisite meals.

Leaving early in the morning and taking a picnic lunch with you, you will spend most of the day game driving on the floor of the crater. We climb steadily through the Ngorongoro Highlands before reaching the rim of Ngorongoro Crater. A brief stop will be made at the viewpoint so that we may admire the vista of the crater some two thousand feet below. Standing at 2236m above sea level, Ngorongoro is the largest unbroken caldera in the world and surrounded by very steep walls rising 610m from the floor. Covering an area of 259 sq.kms, it is considered to be one of the Wonders of the Natural World and is a veritable haven for wildlife. In the afternoon, you will proceed towards Ngorongoro Serena ,the lodge is well camouflaged and has been built into the rim of the Crater keeping to a minimum any intrusion into the surrounding countryside. From each of the 75 rooms, the view into the Crater is stunning.

The drive across the un-travelled short grass plains of the Serengeti to the exclusive Ngaroi Wilderness Area is one of the most breathtaking, off road adventures left in northern Tanzania. We wind our way through dramatic ravines cut into the Gol Mountains, across vast open plains dotted with golden Gazelles into the 300 square kilometre reserve exclusive to Wildlife Explorer. The customary glass of chilled champagne or fresh juice welcomes us to camp. Since 1991 we have combined community and low impact tourism to create a unique environment in which to enjoy safari as it really should be-remote, exclusive and totally devoid of any restrictions, other than the ones we wish to impose. The Alamana Wilderness camp, built around an amphitheatre of kopjes facing west for stunning views as the sun sets, provides extremely comfortable accommodation in a traditional tented camp atmosphere with the added luxuries of individually designed sleeping tents, imported linens and duvets, feather pillows, exterior futons for relaxing during the day as well as en-suite bathrooms for your comfort. Complimenting the private sleeping accommodations is a split level, wooden floored lounge and dining tent with hardwood furnishings, rugs from Afghanistan and Russia and of course a full complement of complimentary beverages from fresh juices to cellar wines. Our renowned cuisine, designed to be healthy and nutritious, as well as tasty, includes freshly made salads, focaccia, pita and other breads baked in a dutch oven and main courses cooked over an open fire, either as intended or adapted to your preferences. Welcome to The Alamana Wilderness Camp!

You can picnic looking out onto the vast plains, (Serengeti means ‘endless plains’ in the Maasai language) or on a kopje outcropping. You can decide to spend a night in our fly camp, with just a net between you and the stars. You may also choose to enjoy a delicious Bush Breakfast or a more leisurely Lunch in camp.

Drive to the Southern or Central Serengeti plains - game drive en route to your Camp. The days of heavy canvas hunting camps set for the likes of Roosevelt and Hemingway were almost over until Photographic safaris gained popularity. Our Luxury Mobile Tented Camps are tasteful, extremely comfortable, and above all mobile, allowing us complete freedom to follow the movements of the great migratory herds. We are extremely proud to have the new tent bay fully operational for all our mobile safaris. The tents, which have been custom designed for us, offer the very highest level of comfort and mobility. New furniture, new layout, and now full led and energy saving light technology make those early morning wake up calls even more enjoyable! The bathrooms remain en-suite, but the shower now enjoys an open air feel to really take advantage of the impressive night skies. All tents are en-suite with Queen or twin bedded sleeping arrangements, silver service dining and of course our renowned well-balanced menus served al Fresco under the African stars or in the candlelit dining tent.
