Gorilla and Chimp Safaris

The mountain gorillas ( Gorilla beringei beringei ) are our closest relatives, fewer than 800 hundred endangered mountain gorillas are found in 2 isolated populations, one in the Virunga mountains in Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda and one in the Bwindi forest in Southwestern Uganda.

We organize gorilla trekking in Uganda and Rwanda.

In Rwanda seven separate habituated gorilla groups are open for tracking in the “Parc national des volcans “, 2 hours drive from Kigali. The “parc des volcans” is part of the Virunga mountains and offer some of the most scenic and picturesque views in East Africa.

In Uganda eight separate habituated gorilla groups are open for tracking in Bwindi impenetrable forest.

Mubale Group – Buhoma/GFC side: (8 members)
Dominant Silverback, Black-back, 2 Adult Females, 1 sub-Adult Male, 1 sub-Adult Female and 2 Infants.

Rushergura Group—Buhoma/GFC side: (19 members)
Dominant Silverback, Black-back, 5 Adult Females, 1 sub-Adult Male, 1 sub-Adult Female, 5 Juveniles, 5 Infants.

Habinyanja Group – Buhoma/GFC side:(19 members)
Dominant Silverback, 2 Black-backs, 6 Adult Females, 1 sub-Adult Males, 1 sub-Adult Females, 2 Juveniles, 6 Infants.

Bitukura Group – Buhoma/GFC side: (12 members)
Dominant Silverback, 3 sub-Silverbacks, 2 Black-backs, 3 Adult Females, 2 Juveniles, 2 Infants.

Nukringo Group – Kisoro/Clouds side: (19 members)
Dominant Silverback, 3 sub-Silverbacks, 3 Black-backs, 4 Adult Females, 3 Juveniles, 5 Infants.

Nshongi Group – Kisoro/Clouds side: (24 members)
Dominant Silverback, 1 sub-Silverback, 7 Black-backs, 5 Adult Females, 5 Juveniles, 5 Infants.

Mishaya Group – Kisoro/Clouds side: (10 members)
Dominant Silverback, 2 Adult Females, 2 Juveniles, 5 Infants

In April 2011, a new gorilla group open for trekking in the Kisoro / ‘Clouds Lodge’ area.
The group is called ‘Mishaya’ and it currently has 9 members.

A Gorilla tracking is one of the most memorable wildlife experiences.

Best time for gorilla tracking is June to September and December to March.
