Mount Kenya
The mountain trembled in the lilac mist, the cloudlets drifting in front of them like a flock of birds….. I could only think over and over again:
” But isnt’t it beautiful ” Vivienne de Watteville, Out in the blue, 1927
Mt Kenya is deified by both the Maasai and the Kikuyu people, Ngai the god of the Kikuyu and Engai the god of the Maasai have their home on the summit of Kirinyaga the”mountain of brigthness”.
The area around Mt Kenya has been designated World heritage site by UNESCO.
Mt Kenya is the second highest mountain in Africa. The Two highest summits ,Batian (5,199m) and Nelion (5,188m) can only be reached by technical mountaineers.
On request, we offer technical ascension to Point Nelian and Batian.
The third summit Point Lenana (4,985m) is accessible to trekkers but more technical than the major routes to Mt Kilimanjaro.
We work with guides, porters and cooks from a local community organization, the guides have been trained by the Austrian Mountaineering Club.
Best seasons to climb Mt Kenya: End of December to mid March and late August to September.
*I summited Mt Kenya twice.
