This 15 night / 16 day September 2018 African Safari begins September 15, 2018 at the Johannesburg Airport (South Africa) and ends September 30, 2018 at the Victoria Falls Airport (Zimbabwe). You will experience an exciting wildlife safari in the ‘Sabi Sand Game Reserve’ famous for the incredible possibilities seeing the ‘Big Five’ up close. Afterwards you will visit both sides of the awe-inspiring Victoria Falls and spend a couple nights at a lovely guest lodge in Victoria Falls town. Another thrilling game safari in Hwange National Park will follow ending with 3 nights along the Zambezi River to enjoy various water and land based activities. This group tour is hosted by Jen Lubey, The Heritage Safari Company.

Itinerary

  • Day 1 Arrival Johannesburg

    Welcome to Johannesburg, South Africa! You will be met at the door of your aircraft with your name on a paging board and assisted through immigration, baggage collection and customs. You will then be shown to your awaiting shuttle transfer to your hotel (located 5 minutes by transfer).

  • Day 2 Sabi Sands

    This morning you will take the hotel shuttle to the Johannesburg Airport to check-in for your 10:15 AM flight to Hoedspruit, South Africa (located adjacent to Kruger National Park). Upon arrival at 11:20 you will be met by a driver and transferred to the Arathusa Safari Lodge (90 minute drive) located in the northern region of the Sabi Sand Game Reserve.
    Enjoy an afternoon/evening game drive safari in the northern region of the Sabi Sand Game Reserve.

  • Day 3 Sabi Sands

  • Day 5 Sabi Sands - Livingstone

    Enjoy an early morning game safari activity. Afterwards you will be transferred to the Arathusa Airstrip where you will board a 10:10 AM flight to Livingstone, Zambia (via Nelspruit). Upon arrival at 13:00,uYou will be greeted by a representative holding a sign with your name who will assist and drive you to your lodge in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe. En route you will be provided a guided tour of Victoria Falls on the Zambia side (3.5 hours for the tour & transfer).

  • Day 6 Livingstone

    This morning you will enjoy a 2 hour ‘Private guided tour of Victoria Falls’ (from the Zimbabwe side) and visit the rainforest.
    Afternoon at your leisure to experience activities offered in the Victoria Falls area.
    In the late afternoon at 4 PM you will set out on the Ra-Ikane Sunset Cruise along the Zambezi River. Enjoy a brief history of the river with a cocktail in hand as you set out on the Sunset Cruise. Snack on delicacies from the high tea selection, as well as other delectable snacks, and be treated to any of the thirst-quenching beverages from the fully-stocked bar, while you take in the wild Zambezi.

  • Day 7 Livingstone - Hwange National Park

    Your Zimbabwean safari experience begins today. This morning you will embark on your road transfer (2 hours) and ‘Elephant Express Rail Car’ transfer (2 hours) to Camelthorn Lodge situated in the South Eastern corner of Hwange National Park – drinks and snacks will be provided enroute. Upon arrival at the Camelthorn Lodge you will receive a welcome drink and short orientation before settling in to your beautifully appointed forest villa and freshen up.
    Enjoy a late afternoon game drive by Land Rover into Hwange National Park ending up at our unique Look Up blind at Stoffie’s Pan for sundowners and canapés and the truly remarkable close encounters with wildlife that are a feature of the Look Up.
    Night drive back to the lodge and then enjoy a 3 course dinner beneath a blanket of stars under the Camelthorn tree.

  • Day 8 Hwange National Park

    This morning wake up to the abundance of bird life in the area while sipping freshly brewed coffee or tea and later enjoy either a light continental or delicious cooked breakfast in the lodge area. Embark on your game drive vehicles for Ngamo Village 15 minutes from the lodge for a very special morning that gives guests a chance to experience a real and unchoreographed interaction with villagers. The visit culminates in a tour of the school and a singing performance by some of the children followed by a class interaction where children have an opportunity to meet guests and vice versa.  Afterwards return to Camelthorn for lunch and a short siesta before a game drive on the Ngamo Plains in Hwange National Park. Stop for sundowners on the plains sipping cold drinks and enjoying snacks while our experienced guides share their love and knowledge of the bush with you. As the sun goes down head back to the lodge to freshen up before dinner served in the main lodge area before retiring to your luxurious villa.

  • Day 9 Hwange National Park

    Early morning tea or coffee and then guests pack day packs for a full day trip into the park with a picnic and siesta under the trees at Mfagazaan Pan. Leisurely afternoon game drive back to the lodge going from pan to pan, weaving our way between the throngs of jostling elephant that come pouring in for the fresh water. It makes for a fun, memorable and extremely rewarding day.
    Showers or bubble baths and then enjoy pre-dinner campfire drinks before an authentic African 3-course dinner is served.

  • Day 10 Hwange National Park

    After a delicious cooked breakfast, drive 10 minutes to Ngamo Siding and embark on the Elephant Express rail car  for a slow ride up the railway line game viewing all the way to Impofu Siding. Cool drinks and snacks will be served on board to enjoy en route (about a 2-2.5  hour ride) Disembark from the Elephant Express at Dete Station and board Imvelo game viewing vehicles to take guests to Nehimba Lodge (2.5-3 hour game drive)  in the North-West of Hwange National Park, famed for its large elephant herds and variety of wildlife. Once at Nehimba Lodge, settle in and start to unwind as you take a seat overlooking the tranquil waterhole in front of the lodge and enjoy the African rustic charm that surrounds you.  Relax with sundowners as you watch the game come down to drink in front of the lodge and the heat starts to subside for the day as the sun dips below the horizon A 3-course delectable bush dinner will be served out under the African sky near the lodge waterhole.

  • Day 11 Hwange National Park

    This morning head out with your guide for game drives and walks, exploring this beautiful Northern part of Hwange National Park. The north is distinctly different from the southern part both in topography, habitats and species of wildlife.
    Stop off at the Nehimba Seep for a mid-morning tea break. The seep is an ancient source of water once used by the San Bushmen historically as well as being a place where elephant still dig for water and minerals.
    Return to the lodge for a leisurely lunch and then siesta or perhaps relax by the lodge swimming pool, frequented by Hwange’s thirsty herds during the dry season.
    Later in the afternoon, head out on a game drive within the park, ending with cool refreshments and canapés at sunset over one of this areas famed waterholes. Back at camp our guests can enjoy a relaxing bath or shower to freshen up before a 3-course dinner in the main lodge area followed by reliving the day’s safari around the campfire and later fall asleep to the sounds of the African bush around you.

  • Day 12 Hwange National Park

    Early morning tea or coffee on your private deck followed by a hearty breakfast in the main lodge and then board a game viewing vehicle to drive to Mandavu Dam for a picnic lunch (2 hours). Mandavu Dam is situated in a scenic hilly spot only 15 kilometres from Sinamatella Camp and is a wonderful location for both bird watching and game viewing. Return to the lodge in the afternoon and relax on the deck overlooking the waterhole with sundowners A delectable 3-course dinner will then be served followed by coffee or a night cap around the campfire.

  • Day 13 Hwange NP - Zambezi NP

    After a last walk in the Hwange wilderness, enjoy a hearty breakfast and then embark on your road transfer to Zambezi Sands on the banks of the thundering wild waters of the Zambezi River, inside Zambezi National Park (5 hours). 3 hours of this transfer takes place in the National Parks and is the perfect opportunity to view game along the way. Drinks and snacks will be provided en route. Settle into your luxury tent at Zambezi Sands River Camp and then relax on an evening sundowner drift near camp watching the game come down to drink and the unsurpassed beauty of the a Zimbabwean sunset. Later enjoy a superb 3 course meal on the main lodge deck while listening to the Siansimba Rapids in front of the lodge, before retiring to your tent and falling asleep as the river rushes past.

  • Day 14 Zambezi National Park

    Start your day with tea or coffee on your private deck followed by a tasty breakfast overlooking the Zambezi on our main deck under the Ebony trees.  Enjoy the ‘In-house activities (included)’ at the lodge; game drives, game walks, fishing, canoeing, sunset cruises and bush breakfasts.  Or enjoy in town a smorgasbord of options (additional cost) include a guided tour of the falls, river cruises, white water rafting, bungee jumping, Devil’s Pool, high wire activities – or maybe just some relaxed souvenir shopping.   • Day 15 Zambezi National Park

    Enjoy early morning tea or coffee on your private deck overlooking the river followed by a sumptuous breakfast in the main lodge. Pack day packs and head out with your guide for a game drive and walk, exploring this beautiful part of the national park. Stop off at one of our picturesque picnic spots for a delicious packed lunch and siesta before taking a slow drive back to the lodge in the afternoon. Once back in camp relax for an hour or two in your private splash pool watching the game and birdlife on the river’s edge and in the evening head out on a game drive within the park, stopping for evening drinks and nibbles. Back at the lodge freshen up before enjoying a 3 course dinner in the elegant main lodge.

  • Day 16 Departure Day

    After morning tea or coffee on your private deck, explore the park one more time on foot, taking a guided early morning walk ending with a farewell bush breakfast along the river.
    On returning to the lodge, pack up & then a final road transfer back to Victoria Falls Airport (1 hour) for onward flight travel.
